Canine at Home

Hey, I’m Megan, a dog trainer in the city of Charlotte dedicated to helping dog owners address behavioral issues while teaching them how to effectively manage their pets for a peaceful relationship. My approach to dog training combines techniques that promote positive behavior and strong communication between dog and owner.

Balanced Training

Balanced dog training is an approach that combines reinforcement and discipline to teach dogs desirable behaviors while correcting inappropriate ones. In my training programs, I combine both positive reinforcement and appropriate correction to mold the desired behaviors of my clients.

Reinforcement

Positive reinforcement, such as treats, praise, or play, is used to reward and encourage desired behaviors such as sit, down, and heel. This method of training helps dogs associate what we consider good actions with enjoyable outcomes.

Correction

Correction, or positive punishment, is applied in training to stop undesirable behaviors, such as jumping on people, excessive barking, pulling on a leash, etc. When applied properly, a fair and consistent correction communicates boundaries to the dog, letting him know that certain behaviors are not permissible.

FAQ

  • First things first, don't be nervous. We'll start with a free consultation to determine your dog’s needs. You can call or email me directly, or you can schedule a time for me to meet you and your dog in person and discuss the next steps from there.

  • Pricing is based on the training program you choose. Private lessons, in-home training, and group classes are all different from each other and are therefore priced accordingly. Click here for more information regarding prices.

  • Timelines depend on the training program and the progress of you and your dog. My shortest program lasts 3 weeks and my longest program lasts 8 weeks. Each choice comes with the possibility of an extension based on how much training we accomplish and if you and your dog need extra time to complete the program. If an extension is necessary to complete your dog’s training, I attach no extra fee for the continuation. Additionally, I offer free brush-up training sessions for up to 5 years after a training program is completed.
